Celebrating International Day of Peace 2024: CLASS Champions Justice and Dignity

On September 21, 2024, the Center for Legal Aid Support Services (CLASS) proudly celebrated the International Day of Peace, joining the global community in reaffirming the universal desire for a world founded on justice, equality, and human dignity. This year’s theme, “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals,” resonates deeply with CLASS’s mission to promote access to justice and combat human rights violations in Liberia.

CLASS and the Pursuit of Peace

Peace is more than the absence of conflict—it is the presence of justice, fairness, and opportunity for all. CLASS embodies this ideal by providing critical legal aid to victims of human trafficking, child labor, forced labor, and other human rights abuses. Through its holistic approach to legal literacy, conflict resolution, family life education, and judicial support, CLASS ensures that vulnerable populations in Liberia are empowered to assert their rights and pursue justice in the face of adversity.

A Day of Reflection and Commitment

The International Day of Peace celebration, held at CLASS’s headquarters, brought together staff, volunteers, community leaders, and beneficiaries in solidarity. Photos from the event capture the vibrancy of the day—attendees participating in workshops, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and sharing stories of resilience and triumph over injustice. A key highlight was a community dialogue session focusing on peacebuilding strategies through legal empowerment, where participants explored how justice can serve as a foundation for sustainable peace.

Promoting Peace Through Action

CLASS’s work underscores that achieving peace requires more than lofty aspirations; it demands action. On this day, CLASS reaffirmed its commitment to:

  • Providing Legal Aid: Offering pro bono legal representation to marginalized individuals and communities.
  • Educating the Public: Conducting workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about human rights, conflict resolution, and family law.
  • Advocating for Policy Change: Engaging with policymakers to create a more just legal framework that safeguards the rights of all, especially the most vulnerable.

A Vision for a Peaceful Future

As Liberia and the world navigate complex challenges, CLASS remains steadfast in its belief that peace begins with justice. By ensuring that every person, regardless of their circumstances, has access to legal support, CLASS contributes to a more peaceful, equitable society.

This celebration of International Day of Peace serves as a powerful reminder of the vital link between justice and peace. CLASS invites all who share this vision to join its mission—because peace is not only a goal for the future; it is a responsibility we bear today.
